Sketch the plot and label areas consistently. Record dates and visible changes without assuming their causes. Keep planting and treatment information with its source so another gardener can understand the record.

Keep the finished note with its date and source material. Return to it when you repeat the exercise, and add what changed rather than replacing the earlier observation.
